Hey Matt. My son and I enjoyed your Tying and Matching Eastern Hatches presentation in Edison on Saturday. You mentioned an Esopus hatch that surprised me. Now I can't remember what it was. 🤔 Was something unusual - not ordinary mayfly or caddis hatch. By chance do you have an idea to what I'm referring? If so, can you elaborate on the hatch? Thanks for the seminar and apologize for my detail-lacking question.

The Esopus hatch is an Isonychia hatch (slate drake). It lasts for months and from June until November on cloudy, rainy days it sometimes can be as heavy as any mayfly hatch. The nymph is also our go-to fly on that river when nothings hatching. I tie both the emerger and nymphv(Vinnie's Isonychia Nymph) on Tightline Production youtube videos. It's also one of the most important hatches on all Catskill waters. Matt

Thanks, Matt. I just watched the Vinnie's Isonychia nymph video. Realistic looking pattern. I haven't fished the Esopus in a couple of years, but it's where I caught my first few trout on the fly a few years back. Fond memories. Hopefully I will make it back there this year. Thanks again.
